Looking For Some Places To Send Your Charitable Gifts?
Here's Ben's Suggestions For 2003-2004

Posted: November 1, 2003

Can't come up with a good gift for that friend, family member or even business associate?  Whether it's for the holiday season or the other 48 weeks a year, charitable gifts are a great alternative to giving crappy presents that'll end up being put up on a shelf or "re-gifted" altogether.  Here's some ideas that I'd like you to consider:

National level charitable suggestion:

Leeza's Place: Established in 2001 by Leeza Gibbons, this non-profit organization was founded as a result of her Mom's Alzheimer's diagnosis a couple of years ago: "We are a family. Related by blood, bonded by emotion and blessed by deep commitment to one another. Our flaws and fears are all out on the table. We've opened up our story because we hope it can help, because people are hurting...and because Mom asked us to. Like so many of you, while we wait for a miracle, we learn, we fight, we push for a cure and we lean on each other for strength."  For contact information or to make a donation, click here.  And their just-rolled-out Virtual Tribute allows you to make a donation on-line, right here/right now, to honor a caregiver and give them recognition for their hard work...or to pay respects to someone who has already crossed over.  You can post your tribute within your group (which you control) or you can do it privately.  Money goes to Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation and The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.  It doesn't have to be about memory disorder, and is a very personal way to give someone special credit and/or recognition.

Local/North Texas area charitable suggestions:

Russ Martin Listener Foundation: So maybe Russ' top-rated radio show isn't for everyone, but down deep the guy's gotta heart of gold.  And to his credit, he set up his listener foundation, formed to "...aid victims of disasters or crimes in North Texas.  Aid could help the families of fallen police officers or firefighters, homeless animals, etc.   When the need arises, we will be able to immediately issue a check to the victims or their families. No delays while waiting for fund-raisers or special bank accounts to be set up."  So far they've helped the families of six law enforcement/firefighters, as well as well-deserving others since it's formation in 2001.  Get out your checkbook or credit card and click here to donate.

Operation Kindness: Saving lives since 19765, Operation Kindness is a nonprofit animal-welfare organization that cares for homeless or unwanted cats and dogs in a no-kill environment. They never euthanize an animal to make room for another, and care for all the animals they take in until they're adopted.  Wanna know more about 'em...click here.  And if you want to save a life or two or a dozen (or more), dig deep and click here to donate.
